Monarch Tasks Oil Firms On Local Content
Companies operat
ing in the rural areas of Rivers State have been charged to operate within the confines of the Local Content Act, so as to create more employment opportunities for the people.
The paramount ruler of Edagberi and Better Land Communities, HRH Chief Sunday Ubele, said this last Saturday shortly after his coronation at Joinkrama in Ahoada-West Local Government.
He said if companies operating in the rural areas could obey the stipulation of the Local Content Act, the era of unemployment will belong to the past.
Ubele, reasoned that the best form of empowerment is gainful employment and not material things that would perish with time.
According to him, people especially youth, should learn how to be creative in order to avoid dependence on others.
The Tide was told that the Edagberi and Betterland Communities have over 44 operational oil and gas wells and a flow station operated by SPDC.
Furthermore, it was learnt that the communities are into timber production and other agricultural production.
Earlier, the Okilomu-Akie Xii has promised a leadership style that will enthrone development in the communities.
