Kerosene: Don’t Sell Above N50, DPR Warns Dealers

leum Resources (DPR), has  warned kerosene retailers against selling the product above the approved price of N50 per litre.
The Operations Controller, DPR, Eket, Mr Asuquo Antai, issued the warning during interview with newsmen in Eket.
He said some retailers took advantage of the new government approved price of N50 per litre and resold the product to consumers at a higher price.
He said marketers who bought the product from government and sold above the approved price would be sanctioned.
He warned retailers indulging in the act to desist from it.
Antai said the agency had put in place measures to monitor kerosene sales at filling stations to ensure that the marketers complied with government’s approved price.
He said the federal government had set up Joint Task Force to monitor marketers’ compliance with the directive.
“Government has made the product available at filling stations. Joint task force has been set up in Abuja to monitor the product’s distribution and sale.
“The duty of the task force is to ensure that people get kerosene at N50 per litre.
“It is our responsibility to monitor sales at the filling stations and ensure that the product is sold to the people at N50 per litre and not above the approved price’’, he said.
Antai advised the public to report any outlets selling kerosene above the approved pump price to the authorities for sanction.
“This is a way government is trying to help an ordinary man and woman to feel the impact of dividends of democracy.
“Federal government has subsidised kerosene to make the product available for every household in the country’’, Antai said.
He said that Akwa Ibom and Cross River had benefited from Kero-direct Programme of the Federal Government, adding that DPR had commenced monitoring the sales of the product.
Antai said the reduction in the price of kerosene would reduce hardship faced by Nigerians.
It would be recalled that Federal Government inaugurated the sale of kerosene at the pump price of N50 per litre under the Kero-Direct Scheme.
It is designed by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), to make the commodity available to every household in the country.
