Gunmen Kill APC Supporter In Akuku-Toru

The Chairman of Akuku Toru Local Government Council, Care taker Committee Mr Otisah Christain Livingstone, has condemned the alleged  killing of a member of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) last week.
Livingstone who stated  this while confirming the incident to newsmen in Abonnema last Friday, alleged that the attack which he described as barbaric and wicked was perpetrated by suspected political thugs in the community.
When The Tide visited the area on Friday, residents of Abonnema community  were still in a mourning mood .
The Tide was informed that the deceased Tamuno-Obufia Manuel, who is a strong supporter of APC was attacked and killed at his family’s Cyclops’ Briggs Compound.
According to the council Chairman, “when  villagers and APC supporters got the news at about 11pm, Thursday night and rushed to the scene, the assailant had escaped.”
The chairman said that the body of the slain Manuel has been recovered and deposited in the morgue by the police and family members of the victim, adding that some members of the family have made useful statement at the Abonnema police station.
Livingstone said that security operatives were on top of the situation adding that full scale investigation on the matter is on going and expressed confidence that the culprits would be brought to book.
“I have spoken with the council chairman said, commissioner of police, Mr.Dan Bature and he has assured me that the command will properly investigate the matter as it will not be swept under the carpet as usual”.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Police Command ASP Mohammed Ahmed declined to comment on it.
