Fuel Price: Transporter Wants Erring Filling Stations Sanctioned

The Directorate of
Petroleum Resources (DPR) has been called upon to clamp down on filling stations that had refused to reduce their pump prices of petrol from N97.00 to N87.00  as recently announced by the Federal Government.
A road transporter, Mr Sylvester Onu, made the call in an interview with The Tide correspondent in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Onu said it is unbelievable that since after the announcement by the president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, all pump price of petrol be reduced immediately by N10.00, per litre, some filling stations in the state had refused to comply, rather they are still selling their products at the old price of N97.00 per litre.
He hinted that the non compliance is not going down well with the motoring public in Rivers State, but that they do not have any option when compelled by the situation adding that government should take proactive action in ensuring that all filling stations adhere to the order.
According to him, the announcement came as a relief to all motorists but wondered why the implementation had not been effected accordingly, describing the Federal Government’s announcement or order on the reduction of the pump prices of fuel as timely, and prayed that it should be obeyed by owners of filling stations.
Onu, who declined to mention the filling stations that had refused to comply, called on the relevant authorities to take appropriate action or set up a taskforce to ensure strict compliance of the order.
