Led by the AFAN woman leader in the state, Hajiya Fatima in an interview with The Tide source, said the request was necessary in view of the increase in the number of women farmers as well as to encourage more women especially rural dwellers to embrace farming.
Fatima also called for the introduction of special loan scheme for women farmers in the country.
“Women farmers need to be given special consideration in the distribution and sales of fertilisers and other inputs to reduce the hardship they encounter in getting the commodity”, she said.
Speaking further, she said women have about 5,000 registered farmers under AFAN.
According to her, the gesture would also alleviate the sufferings associated with procuring the commodity, particularly in remote areas.
She commended the federal government for introducing the Growth Enhancement Scheme (GES). On irrigation, she said members of the union would cultivate rice, tomatoes and maize at six irrigation sites across the state.
The irrigation sites, she said were located in Garin Baba, Hadejia – Jama’are Kura, Bebeji, Bakin dam in Bagwai local government area and Lambar Zango Warawa LGA.
