Expert Wants Professionals To Adopt BIM Model
An expert in the build
ing environment, Dr. M. E. Obiegbu, has said that Building Information Modelling (BIM) is one of the most promising recent developments in the architectural, engineering and construction Industry, and urges Professionals in the industry to adopt the model.
Obiegbu who made this known in a paper he presented at a housing forum in Port Harcourt recently said that with BIM technology, an accurate virtual model of a building is digitally constructed.
He said that the model can be used for planning, design, construction and operation of the facility, and that it helps architects, engineers, builders and contractors visualise what is to be built in a simulated environment to identify any potential design, construction or operational issues.
According to him, BIM represents a new paradigm within the professionals, and one that encourages integration of the roles of all stakeholders on a project.
He said that the building sector had long sought techniques to decrease project cost, increase productivity and quality and reduce project delivery time, and that BIM offers the potential to achieve these objectives.
The builder explained that BIM had numerous benefits at various levels of project, from the design phase to the construction and management.
With the use of a complete model, one is able to visualise the project in an efficient manner. The creation of a BIM model requires a lot of preparation on behalf of all the project team members,” he said.
