Everything About My Govt Is Transparent – Amaechi
Government activities did not slow down in
Government House last week despite the absence of the state Chief Executive, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, who was on national assignments.
Earlier in the week, the governor granted interview with some journalists and spoke on his achievements and quarrel with President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Rivers State governor said that his problem with President Jonathan was due to the president’s refusal to give the people the opportunity to reverse the current trend of poverty, even as he watched top government officials and associates steal the country’s monies.
He said, “Under former President Obasanjo and Yar’Adua, the oil subsidy was N300billion, but six months into 2011 under Jonathan, the oil subsidy became N2.3trn. When governors went on strike, it was N1.7trn and we said we wouldn’t collect our monthly allocation unless they returned or stopped further subsidy, and Jonathan assured he would, but didn’t”.
On Thursday last week, the governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. David Iyofor, replied to claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) guber candidate, Nyesom Wike, that the state government has squandered the state resources.
Governor Amaechi described Wike’s claim as “bogush lies, falsification of figures and clear case of ‘tales by moonlight,” stating that the figures read by the PDP guber flag bearer at his campaign were meant to deceive the public.
He said the administration has run a transparent and accountable government stressing that, “everything about the income and expenditures of this government is in the public domain and has never been shrouded in secrecy. So Wike’s ignominious attempt to dish out cooked figures will never fly.”
Governor Amaechi challenged Wike to tell the people who he is contesting against, but has instead resorted to name calling and calumny.
In another statement, former Chief of Staff, Government House, and APC House of Representatives candidate in Obio/Akpor, Sir Tony Okocha, flaked the PDP guber candidate as lacking any intellectual depth to contest the governorship of Rivers State.
Sir Okocha said Wike and his associates were showing desperation in an attempt to malign and disparage Governor Amaechi.
He said, “Wike’s inability to make good his boast to publish the memo in todays dailies underscores the fact that his vituperations are couched in tissues of lies and should hide his face in shame”.
Okocha wondered how a man who aspires to be a governor of the state should rivet in lies and deceit, describing PDP as a party in a show of vendetta.
The former chief of staff challenged the PDP guber candidate to explain to the citizenry the source of his wealth, while using the opportunity to apologise to the people of Obio/Akpor and the government over the development.
