Enyimba chairman, Felix
Anyansi-Agwu and coach Kadiri Ikhana have assured the club are through to the next round of 2015 CAF Champions League after they beat Buffles du Borgou 3-0.
The packed Enyimba International Stadium in Aba had to endure a long spell of anxious moments as the largely unknown Benin side held on for almost the duration of the match after falling behind to a Daniel Etor’s 8th minute goal.
But they later capitulated through two late strikes by Kingsley Sokari and Peter Onyekachi in the 85th and 90th minutes after Nzube Anazemba missed from the spot on 80 minutes.
”No doubt the fact that the league has yet to start affected the rhythm of our game to a very large extent. However, we showed great determination and desire to win which gave us the victory,” said Ikhana.
”I don’t see our opponents defeating us in the return leg because, before now, we knew next to nothing about them but with what we have seen of them, I do not see them stopping us from qualifying for next round of the competition.”
Anyansi added: “I knew it was going to be a difficult match due to the fact that they know much of us while we knew little about them.
”I was very confident we will win by three goals even when the goals refused to come till the last five minutes when we scored two of the goals.
”We are going to Benin for a win. This is not a team who could threaten us. We shall take the teams as they come with our target being the last four of the competition and from there anything goes.”
