Cyclist Calls For Grassroots Cycling Development
A cyclist, Jerry
Samuel, has told the Nigeria Cycling federation to make grassroots development of cycling priority this year.
Samuel made the call in an interview with newsmen in Lagos at the weekend.
The athlete, who works with the Lagos State Cyclist Association, said that cycling would never grow unless it was developed at the grassroots.
“It is so unfortunate that cycling is being neglected. It’s sad because we need this exposure.
“We are craving for grassroots competitions, I mean we need a viable grassroots progamme to keep our talents actively engaged.
“If the federation does not help resolve this issue. I am afraid of the future for the sport.
“The federation has a lot to do, I am sure that they are aware of the task. I hope they will speed up actions on it.
“I strongly believe that the fortune of cycling will change if our leaders do things as they should”, Samuel said.
