Customs Generates N5.8bn In Cross River

Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said last Thursday, in Calabar, that it generated N5.8billion as revenue in 2014.
The Area Controller in charge of Calabar Free Trade Zone, Cross River and Akwa Ibom, Mr Nicholas Oshomah, made the statement when he visited Mr Rekpene Bassey, the State Security Adviser (SSA).
He said that the command, under the leadership of the Comptroller General of NCS, Mr Abdullahi Inde, was motivated to generate more revenue.
He lauded the cordial relationship existing between the command and the state government and stressed the need for its sustenance.
“We would not have achieved this without the assistance of Cross River Government and we would be grateful if you would continue the same way you did with my predecessors,’’ he said.
In his response, Bassey urged the command to strengthen its capacity in dealing with the challenges of checking prohibited items from entering into the state.
“There is need for the NCS to gear up in checking prohibited items, especially drugs and arms from coming in through our water and land borders,’’ he said.
The security adviser, who reassured the command of the support of the government, called on the Federal government to encourage the NCS to boost revenue generation.
