CP Pledges Collaboration With NUJ To Fight Crime

The new Commissioner of
Police in Edo, Mr Samuel Adegbeuyi, has pledged to collaborate with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), to reduce crime and criminality in the State.
Adegbeuyi made the pledge when he visited the state’s secretariat of the union in Benin on Wednesday.
“I am here to tell you the reason why we should work together to sustain and improve on security of lives and property.
“No society can survive without freedom of speech and expression, we need to work together in order to ensure that the security of our nation is not compromised.
“I appeal to you that when there is the need for a clarification of issue of public interest, do not hesitate to come to me, as my office is open to you all”, Adegbeuyi said.
Responding, Chairman of NUJ in Edo, Mr Desmond Agbama, urged the commissioner to provide security for the electorate during the general elections, adding that journalists had been molested in the past.
Agbama also called for the deployment of security personnel to the NUJ.
The chairman said all journalists were important in the course of information dissemination and that he should attend to any of them when his assistance was needed.
He assured the police of the union’s support.
