The Director-Gen
eral of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Dr. Mohammad Ahmad last Friday advised affected States to be patient in resolving  boundary disputes.
Ahmad told journalists in Abuja  that the boundary dispute passes  through gradual  process before being resolved, and  also pointed out that the commission had settled  several boundary disputes  between communities, adding that people had confidence in the commission  as their  disputes were being amicably  resolved.
He explained that the commission would do its best to advise affected states and communities in such dispute  on the  best approach in addressing such problems.
“I will continue to advise affected states and communities involved in boundary disputes to be patient before getting a solution to the problem,” he said.
Ahmad said border communities should also be encouraged by  traditional rulers and local  government officials to peacefully settle their  disputes.
He said lack of commitment by some state governments in settling boundary disputes were some of the challenges being faced by the commission.
According to him, the commission had been meeting with officials of the affected states to ensure peaceful resolution of the boundary disputes.
He said  however,  that the  commission would ensure peaceful resolution of all  boundary disputes and appealed for cooperation of the affected communities.
The director-general urged affected states to embrace peace and abide by any decision jointly taken at such meetings which according to him, will be  in the best interest of the parties concerned.
