Bizman Docked For Alleged N5.5m Fraud
The police has ar
raigned a 36-year-old businessman, Arinze Anieke, for allegedly reselling an allocated land for N5.5 million.
Anieke, a resident of Kubwa Extension 3, FCDA, Abuja, is standing trial on a three-count charge of criminal breach of trust, cheating and forgery.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Ambi Ayuba, told the court that one Ismaila Tenimu of No. 40, 24 Crescent, Gwarinpa, Abuja, reported the matter to the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, in a petition on September 26.
Ayuba said the accused had deceived the complainant by making him to purchase the plot of land situated at Kubwa Extension 3, Abuja, on September 4.
He said the complainant entrusted the sum of N5.5 million to the accused for the purchase of the said land and when the complainant started developing the land, a lady emerged claiming the same land.
He added that the lady said the land was allocated to her on May 15, 2001.
Ayuba also said that police investigations revealed that the accused converted the said money to his personal use and forged the land documents he gave to the complainant.
He said that the offences contravened sections 312, 322 and 365 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N5.7 million with a surety that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case to March 23, for hearing.
