Anambra: 22 Motherless Babies’ Homes Receive N20m Items
Anambra indigenes
resident in Vienna, Austria, have donated more than N20 million gift and edible items to 22 motherless babies’ homes in the state.
The Co-coordinator of the group, Dr Samuel Okoli, stated this in Onitsha, when he presented food items worth thousands of Naira to the Community Children Home, Onitsha, being managed by Missionaries of Charity.
Okoli said they were touched by the poor condition of most motherless babies in the country and resolved to impact positively on their lives.
“In Vienna, Austria, we look beyond our families on what to do to impact on people so that they will feel that they belong to the society.
“These food stuffs, bags of rice, beans, onions, dried fish, salt and maggi cubes are meant to help the babies to keep fit.
“We will continue to assist them and I call on other good people in Anambra especially those in Diaspora to emulate us,’’ he said.
Also speaking, a retired Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Gloria Okeke, expressed appreciation for the assistance rendered to the motherless babies in Anambra.
“God would replenish what you people, with such a kind heart all the way from Austria, have spent on these our children,’’ Okeke said.
The Director of the Missionaries of Charity, Rev. Sister Francis Ann, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, also commended the donors.
Ann said that the items would be judiciously utilised for the betterment of the babies.
“These babies are the future leaders we see; and I thank you for coming to our aid and caring about them notwithstanding the distance.
“God in his infinite mercy would remember you who have contributed to this laudable project of caring for motherless babies,’’ she said.
