Analyst Tasks RSG On Illegal Road Task Forces
A public analyst,
Ibinabo Wakama has called on the Rivers State Government and other relevant authorities to get rid of all illegal task forces and touts in Port Harcourt and its environs.
Wakama, who made the call in a chat with our correspondent in Port Harcourt yesterday said it is embarrassing and uncalled for how people constitute themselves into taskforce and harass, intimidate and extort money from innocent and law abiding citizens of the state.
He hinted that their mode of operation is even worse than car snatchers as they jump in to vehicles and start dragging car keys with the drivers, thereby causing public nuisance.
According to him, some even had physical combat with drivers who proved not to succumb to their act, saying that the molestation is something that must be checked right now.
The analyst said some put on uniforms, armed with dangerous weapons and patrol the roads of Port Harcourt with impunity and without minding that they are on illegal business, stressing that their activities are becoming worrisome and if not checked would paint the state in bad light before the public as well as investors.
Wakama, who was amazed with what he saw along Lagos bus stop of Port Harcourt metropolis, said it is time for the government and other relevant authorities to wade into the matter to save lives and protect the drivers.
