ALGON To Distribute Fertilizers To Farmers In Kebbi
The Association of
Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) says it will distribute more than 200,000 bags of assorted fertilizers at subsidised rate to farmers in Kebbi this farming season.
The Chairman of ALGON in the State, Alhaji Musa Dan-Illela said this while addressing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.
Dan-Illela said that already, the commodity had been procured and would be sold to farmers at the cost of N1,700 per bag.
According to him, this will represent a N3,000 subsidy as a bag of the commodity costs N4,700 in the open market.
He explained that the aim of the low rates of the product to farmers was to boost production in the state as well as incentive to attract people to farming.
“This will also help improve the farmers’ economic status” he said. He assured that the association would ensure that additional incentives were provided to the farmers.
The ALGON boss said that such incentives would be sustained since the majority of the people of the state were farmers.
Throwing more light, he explained that priority would be given to the construction of access roads in the rural areas adding that modalities were being worked out to enable each local government to construct 20 kilometres of road.
According to him, the provision of roads was a major factor in enhancing social and economic development.
