AIG Sets Up Special Squads On Elections …As APC, PDP, Others Sign Peace Accord

The Assistant Inspector
General of  Police, Zone 6, Calabar, in-charge of Cross River, Ebonyi, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, has set up special squads on electoral offences with the mandate to deal with all electoral complaints and offences ahead of the March 28th and April 11th general elections.         Ogunsakin disclosed this in Calabar at the Officer’s Mess of the Nigerian Police during the signing of a peace accord between the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Labour Party (LP), National Conscience Party (NCP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in preparations for the elections in the state.
The Zone 6 Police boss said “I have the mandate from the Inspector General of  Police, Suleiman Abba to ensure that elections in the aforementioned states are peaceful and hitch-free.”
He said as part of a wider strategy to ensure that electoral offenders are dealt with decisively, he, upon assumption of office, directed Commissioners of Police under his command to also constitute special squads on electoral offences and transfer all electoral offenders to his office during the elections.
The AIG also said he has directed the Cross River State Police Command to embark on intensive stop and search of all vehicles, in all the nooks and crannies of the State in order to nip in the bud any unwholesome acts that can impede the peaceful conduct of the general elections.             In his remarks, the Cross River State Commissioner of  Police, Mr. Henry Fadairo said the signing of the peace accord by political parties was to ensure that the elections are devoid of violence during and after the elections
