The Chief Regulatory
officer of NAFDAC, Aba office, Mr Udoekpo Ekpo, says that Eziukwu Road Market in Aba is a threat to efforts to rid the state of fake food products.
Udoekpo stated this while speaking with newsmen  in Aba.
The CRO said that one of the agency’s major troubles in its regulatory services to the people of the state was the massive faking of packaged food products and drinks in the market.
He said that the operators in the market did not support the agency in getting rid  of fake packaged food products originating from there but rather  threatened its operatives at the market.
“Two months ago, my men went in there to cull fake products and the traders locked us inside the market that we could not go out.
“We are trying our best to see that Aba ceases to be the hub of fake food products around the east. We are not there yet but we are hoping to get there soon,” he said.
Udoekpo stressed the need for people to feed the agency with vital and truthful information in order to save many people from becoming victims of fake products.
He said that many people were dying from consumption of fake products and urged the people engaged in the production of fake products to be bold to inform the agency.
He promised to investigate and act on volunteered information from the public, adding that although some people were volunteering information, more was required to rid the state of evil businessmen.
