Honour Janza has admit
ted that Zambia lacked quality finishing at 2015 AFCON but insisted he is seeing light at the end of the tunnel.
Zambia exited the 2015 Africa Cup without a win on two points from three games after drawing 0-0 with Cape Verde in their final Group B match in Ebebiyin on Monday night.
The draw also saw Zambia exit the tournament with just two goals from 270 minutes of action in Equatorial Guinea.
This is after Janza picked an inexperienced strikeforce for the tournament that was later left to fend for itself after seasoned striker and 2012 winning star Emmanuel Mayuka suffered a groin injury in Zambia’s 2-1 loss to Tunisia in their penultimate Group B match on January 22.
“I think what has kept us from going forward in this tournament is just the lack of utilising our opportunities,” Janza said.
“If we were able to put the goals behind as other teams have done at the tournament, I think we would have gone beyond this stage.
“You could see in the last two minutes we had clear chances.”
Meanwhile, Zambia had three great chances to win the game against Cape Verde the best of which came in stoppage time of a poor second half dampened by a heavy tropical storm that turned the playing surface into a bog.
Midfielder Mukuka Mulenga saw his close-range shot race inches wide of the far post after some good work by Rainford Kalaba.
“But what has come out of the team at this tournament is that we are able to see a light ahead of us,” Janza insisted.
