Sports Council To Constitute New Association Excos

Rivers State Director
of Sports, Hon Daobu Harry has given reasons why various sporting associations have not functioned effectively, since late last year.
He stated that the tenure of the executive committee of the associations elapsed and were dissolved, saying that elections will be conducted  before the National Sports Festival, (NSF) billed to hold in Calabar in April this year.
According to him, forms  would be on sale next month after the general elections, pointing out that every position in all the associations would be contested for.
Hon. Harry disclosed this in an interview with sports journalists, in Port Harcourt this week.
“Sports council decided that all positions in various sporting associations will be contested for, because we want every association to function effectively.
I know too well that if people bought forms with their money, they will show commitment, he said.
He continued that before now, the sports council appoints and nominate people to constitute the executive, but that would no longer be the practice.
“Before now we used to appoint and nominate people to constitute the executive, but I am telling you that that era has past, we want every association to be viable”, he stated.
The director explained that government alone cannot do everything about sports development and appealed to corporate organisations to sponsor sports competitions and tournaments.
