Sales Rep Faces N370,000 Theft Charge

A sales representative
of a Lagos-based company, Christopher Lukpata, was on Monday, docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing N370, 000.
Twenty-two-year-old Lukpata, whose address was unknown, is standing trial for stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Ishola, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 23 at 8.00 a.m. at No. 27/29, Adeyemo Alakija St., Victoria Island, Lagos.
Ishola alleged that the accused stole N370, 000 belonging to his employer — Thames Shipping Company.
According to him, the accused failed to remit the money being proceeds from sales into the company’s account.
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Our correspondent reports that Section 285 provides three years imprisonment for stealing.
