The Rivers State Po
lice Commissioner has assured all the political parties in the state of a level playing ground in the discharge of their duties even as the police would sue for peace while carrying out their political activities in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Dan Bature, told the representatives of all the political parties that the essence of the meeting was to remind them of the earlier peace accord signed by the two leading political parties in the country which is being replicated across the state.
Bature averred that the police was worried over the increase in politically-related violence in the state attributing it to intolerance among leaders and members of rival political parties.
The  state police boss averred that there was no justification for destroying rival billboards and bombing of party secretariat which according to him cannot guarantee victory at the poll for the individual parties.
According to him, the beauty of democracy in election affords citizens the opportunity to choose who govern as well as political party to pitch interest with and urged the registered political parties to forcefully canvass the vote of the electorates rather than resort to violence.
He debunked the allegations that the police in the state was favouring any particular party even as he warned that the command would not fold its hands and watch the political parties and their members scuttle the relative peace in the state in the name of party politics.
