POMAN Wants Members To Renew Registration
The Chairman, Palm Oil
Millers Association of Nigeria (POMAN) Ahoada East branch, Mr Nwaneri Okirigwe, has called on its members to renew their membership for the year 2015.
Okirigwe who said this during the annual meeting of the body in Ahoada said members subscription was critical for the survival of the palm oil association.
According to him, the year 2015 is a promising one to oil millers as experience has shown that any year that the harmattan was severe increase fruiting of palm trees occured.
While appraising the achievements of the body in 2014, he called on members to do their best in expanding their palm farms.
Okirigwe also called for collaborative efforts from the local government in terms of making soft loans available to individual farmers and the organisation as a body.
He recalled that several efforts in the past for the involvement of local government in the palm oil business had not been fruitful even as he expressed optimism in that direction when new governments come on board after the general elections.
Some of the millers who spoke to our correspondent expressed the hope that the 2015 dry season farming would favour them.
Emmanuel Agi, while counting his blessings in 2014 told our correspondent that he has a manual palm oil mill which he intends to increase to two or three in the coming years.
According to him, milling locally was energy sapping hence the need for government to come to their rescue through the provision of fabricated oil palm mills.
However, according to the secretary of the organisaiton, Mr Festus Chigo, the body has plans to liaise with the Nigerian Stored Products and Research Institute (NSPRI) for a possible acquisiton of a fabricated equipment to help members of the association ease milling of oil.
