Oil May Be Useless By Year 2040 …Environmental Activist

An environmentalist,
Mr Michael Karikpo, has said that oil may no longer be needed by countries by the year 2040 as the world is now moving towards renewable energy.
Speaking at a recent function in Port Harcourt, Mr Karikpo, said that the devastating impact of oil on the environment has triggered off, a global research for an alternative source of energy that is more friendly to the environment.
He said that this situation has led to a decline in the demand for oil by many countries, stressing that Sweden is one country which for along time has banned the use of oil by its citizens as a source of energy.
Mr Karikpo said that the looming crisis is a wakeup call to the Nigerian government to diversify its economy from oil to agriculture.
“Between 2040 and  2050, no country will burn fossil fuel because the atmosphere cannot take it.
“That is why there is need for diversification”, he said.
According to him, Nigeria must put something in place towards renewable energy. Mr Karikpo also decried the continuous gas flaring by oil companies in the Niger Delta stressing that the situation was a violation of the judgement of a Benin High Court which had declared gas flaring illegal. The activist said that the increasing rate of heat on the earth surface and surge in the ocean waters occasioned by climate change is a wakeup call to man everywhere to do  something before the human race is eliminated from the earth.
He used the incessant Tsunamis in the Phillipine to buttress his claim, stressing that the Environment Right Action will continue to advocate for friendly policies towards the environment by both the federal, state government and multinational companies in the country.
