The Nigerian Union of
Petroleum and National Gas Workers (NUPENG) has urged petroleum marketers across the country to comply with the Federal Government’s directive on the reduction of the pump price of petrol of N87 per litre.
In a statement obtained by The Tide and signed by its National President, Comrade Igwe Achese, said that the union is surprised  that some filling stations were still dispensing fuel at their old  rate of N97 per litre, stressing that the situation amounts to total disservice. He is sad that the oil marketers to continue still sell fuel at the old rate thereby exploiting the consumers.
Achese commended the Federal Government for bringing down the price of petroleum products in line with the falling prices of crude oil in the international market.
The union leader enjoined the Federal Government to speed up the Turn-Around Maintenance (TAM) of the nation’s four refineries to reduce the nation’s dependence on massive importation of petroleum products.
The union reiterated its position on the call for the government to establish more refineries and encourage private developers to establish private refineries to reduce massive importation of petroleum products.
Meanwhile, the National President of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Mr Chinedu Okoronkwo has directed members of the association to comply with the Federal Government’s reduction of the petrol pump price.
The Tide was reliably, informed at the association’s Port Harcourt Zonal Office, Alisa Eleme on Wednesday that the Association’s President said there was no need to use force to compel its members to adjust their metres to the new pump price.
The Tide was told, that dynamics of the market forces will compel IPMAN.
