The Nigeria Table Tennis
Federation (NTTF) has appealed to individuals and corporate bodies to assist the federation in the sponsorship of developmental programmes.
NTTF Technical Director,Anderson Bankole  told newsmen  in Lagos that the federation had 38 tournaments lined up in its 2015 programme of events.
“We have 38 competitions spread across the months, and there is no month we do not have at least two tournaments listed.
“We have 23 international and 15 national tournaments for 2015.
“Some of such competitions are GAC Group ITTF World Tour in Kuwait and Qatar, G-20 Club 5th Annual Table Tennis Tournament and Top 8 National Secondary School Singles.
“Others are ITTF Para Table Tennis Courses/Para National Open, GAC 2015 ITTF World Tour, Lagos open, Ligano Master Open, GAC Group World Tour, German Open, among other competitions, ’’ he said.
Bankole, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, said that, in 2014, the federation was only able to participate in 19 competitions due to financial constrains.
He said that the federation could have engaged the athletes more in international competitions if it had adequate funds.
“Believe me, there are lots of competitions that the players could be engaged in to improve their skills, but insufficient funds stopped us form taking part in some of the competitions.
“We need sponsorship to facilitate our players’ participation in major international competitions.
“We are appealing to well meaning Nigerians to assist us through sponsorship of our programmes and provision of flight tickets for our teams.
“This will help us to provide the much needed exposure for our young players. The federation is trying, but we need more assistance from people and corporate bodies.
“What we are getting from the National Sports Commission is not enough to carry out all our programmes; that is why we call on Nigerians home and aboard to come to the aid of the federation.’’
