The Defence
Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Henry Oladele, has been robbed of his working tools and other personal valuables by hoodlums while on assignment.
NAN reports that Oladele was returning to his office, within the National Theatre Complex, Iganmu, on Thursday when he was attacked by the hoodlums numbering about 20.
According to him, he is returning from where he had gone to cover the proceedings of the public hearing of the Committee on the Review of Nigeria’s Defence Policy.
“I was returning to the office through the main entrance to the theatre when I saw a group of boys approaching in the opposite direction.
“Because they were many, I decided to switch to the other lane but as if they were waiting for me, as soon as I reached where they were, they pounced on me.
“They beat me up and even stabbed me with a broken bottle but with God’s intervention I fell down and the attacker missed his target.
“But they took away my three mobile telephone handsets, my wallet containing valuable documents, money and other items, he said.
Oladele said he went to the Nigeria Police Force Post within the theatre complex to incident the case but was not attended to.
It took the intervention of the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, to contact the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Iponri division before they could attend to him.
NAN also reports that the DPO then invited the correspondent to come over and write his statement about the incident.
It was also learnt that the hoodlums had earlier attacked another man within the complex.
