Lawyer Cautions Youths On Election Violence
A practicing lawyer in Rivers State, Barrister Chinedu Omesurum has cautioned youths in the State to be mindful in their involvement in any anti-social tendencies that would be inimical to societal development during and after the general elections.
Barrister Chinedu gave the advise during an interview with The Tide over the weekend in Port Harcourt.
The legal activist used the opportunity to condemned in strong terms what he described as increase electoral violence across the country, especially in the state, describing such act as barbaric and under democratic.
According to him, the causes of these violence in the political sector was due to the absence of tolerance among the politicians and political parties noting what if the trend of violence in the nations polity was not check it may scuttle the present democratic dispensation.
He particularly condemned the bomb that rocked the Okirika as well as the attack on the President Goodluck campaign team in the North describing such as antiquated.
Barrister Omesurum called on the youths not to yield themselves to politicians who will use them to cause trouble and abandon them after they have help them achieve their electioneering mandates noting that causing violence in the name of political affiliation does not do good for anybody.
He advised them to eschew bitterness, rancor and acrimony during the forth coming elections adding that the unity of the country should be paramount above any individuals ambition.
He described the youths as social agents and societal reformists, while urging them to use their youthful strength to contribute their own quota to the development of the state.
The lawyer who is also a member of the Port Harcourt branch of the Nigeria Bar Association urged the security agencies to be neutral and to do their duties with all amount of responsibilities and ensure a peaceful environment during and after the elections.
