Lawmaker Wants NFF To Build New Eagles
A member of the House
of Representatives, Mr Ogbonna Nwuke, has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to build a fresh Super Eagles from the existing U-17 and U-20 national teams.
Nwuke, (APC-Etche/Omuma Constituency), told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the NFF should look inwards and pick new players that should form the new national team.
He said Nigeria could build a new team following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for AFCON 2015.
“ We need to lay appropriate foundations. It’s not just enough to depend on our boys who are being tutored abroad by foreign coaches.
“ I believe that the time has come to fully establish the Nigerian league. The time has also come for coaches here to look further inwards.
“ There are talents everywhere. Those who are playing abroad began their career at home .They were not made abroad.
“ So, if we remove politics from football and we bring in proper football administrators, then we can begin to bring Nigerian football right on track.’’
Nwuke said Africa would miss Nigeria in AFCON 2015 because the Eagles had a special way of brightening up the tournament to make it more entertaining.
“I think the world and indeed, Africans will miss Nigeria’s absence. We bring some touch to the game.
“ The way we play, the way we celebrate, even the way we sing when the game is on.
“Africans will be wondering why a former champion fizzled out when it matters most. But, that’s the game. It’s always said in sports, ‘let the best win.”
