JTF Restores Night Life In Anambra

The Commanding Officer
of the Naval Outpost, Onitsha, Navy Capt. Mike Oamen, says the military joint task force has restored night life after several decades in Anambra.
Oamen told newsmen in Onitsha that in the night preceding the Christmas and the New Year, people were moving in all directions without fear or intimidation from hoodlums and crimes.
“The joint task force restored night life to Onitsha for the first time in many years.
“Christmas and New Year festivities happened without any significant security breach.
“Everybody had a wonderful time; the atmosphere was there for people to enjoy the Christmas and spend time with their families for the first time.
“I think that the credit goes to the efforts of the state government and of course co-operation of the security services and the people of Anambra State.’’
He, however, thanked Governor Willie Obiano for his political will to rid Anambra, especially the Onitsha axis, of all marauders, hoodlums, criminals and gangsters
The commander also said that the Nigerian Navy played a critical role in checking activities of smugglers and bandits on the water ways.
He said that the navy had deterred all nefarious elements from their activities on the River Niger in Onitsha and its neighbouring riverine communities.
“What we did actually was to make sure that this Ogbaru, Onitsha general area, which is the waterline area, we increased security there.
“We mounted both static and mobile surveillance up to Ossamala (community).
“Of course, we increased the number of water patrols throughout the festive season.
“We did not record any incident along Ogbaru up to the Bridge-Head in Onitsha. And the presence of the navy was very visible.’’
The commander, however, appealed to the people living along the River Niger to alert the Navy on activities of criminals as well as any ship or boat not clearly labeled on the waterline.
