FMARD, OSGF Sign MoU For Farmers

Critical to agricultural
production and in line with the vision of the federal government to advance agricultural development in the country, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and the office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, (OSGF) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The target impact of the MoU is on the provision of auto-photo images aimed at empowering farmers with the knowledge of the type of crops to plant and areas suitable for agricultural activities as well as facilitate climate change management.
The Surveyor-General of the Federation, Prof. Peter Nwilo, pleaded to effect transfer of a Deputy Director from his office to the FMARD to enable the advancement of its objectives.
He disclosed that the federal government had procured 25 of these auto-photo imageries with indications of interest for its purchase from various ministries.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, FMARD, Sunny Echono, emphasized the importance and necessity of the MoU through knowing where to plant and what to plant.
He also spoke on the need to be abreast of the conditions and nutrients required based on the type of data generated from the OSGF as it would enable the ministry to provide land information and management of climate change to farmers.
On the modalities and objectives of the MoU, Echono stated that the signing was to primarily enable the ministry acquire some of the multi-special imageries and the use of multi-user licence from OSGF.
“The basis of the MoU which will serve as a planning tool will feature staff training components as well as provide insight to the type of soil nutrients required based on interpretation of the information from the office of the Surveyor-General”, he said.
