‘Enyimba’s Focus Is Not About Winning Super 4’
Friday Christopher, the
assistant coach of Enyimba International Football Club this week in Abuja said that the team’s focus was not to win the ongoing Super 4 invitational tournament.
Christopher told newsmen at the mainbowl of the National Stadium that the team’s focus was on winning the first round fixture in the CAF Champions League next month.
The 2013/2014 Glo Premier League runners-up lost 0-2 to the Flying Eagles in their opening match last weekend.
They however won their second and third game 1-0 respectively against Warri wolves FC and Dolphins FC.
However, the team’s assistant coach said the tournament was a preparatory ground for the team.
“It is to help us select players needed for the continental campaign. Our focus is not to win the Super 4 tournament, rather it is a preparatory ground for us.
“This is the only competition that can help us prepare well for the CAF Champions League and a good one at that.
“This is because individual players will not want to disgrace themselves, so it helps to bring out their best.
“So, this event is helping us to build the team that can represent us in the Champions League.
“We are playing our first leg in Aba on February 15 against a team from Benin Republic, but we don’t know them now.
“So, our focus now is not just to win the match but to win well before the second leg away. At least, nothing less than 3-0,’’ Christopher said.
Enyimba and Kano Pillars will be representing Nigeria in the Champions League, with both participating in the ongoing Super 4 invitational tournament.
