Enyimba Defends Super 4 Against F/Eagles, U23s
Enyimba will hope to
retain the Super 4 title when they battle Nigeria’s U20 and U23s in this year’s invitational tournament.
This year’s Super 4 will involve the four teams who represent Nigeria in continental competitions, while a special invitation has been handed the country’s U20 and U23 teams.
Champions Kano Pillars and Enyimba will fly Nigeria’s flag in the CAF Champions League, while Warri Wolves and Dolphins will feature in the Confederation Cup.
Officials disclosed that plans have been finalised to stage the competition in Abuja between January 22 and February 2.
The tournament will prepare the country’s representatives in both the Champions League and Confederation Cup as well as the national U20 and U23 teams.
The Nigeria Premier League is not expected to begin earlier than March 7 and so the need to stage the competition to prepare Pillars, Enyimba, Dolphins and Warri Wolves for qualifying matches in the continental competitions in February.
Nigeria’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles, will also use this tournament to prepare for the 2015 African Youth Championship slated for March in Senegal, while the U23s are billed for an All Africa Games qualifier against Gabon at the end of February.
