Commissioner Promises To Expand Okogbe Unity Cup

The annual Okogbe
Unity Cup Football competition family football teams in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State is set for expansion following the promise made by the state commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Samuel Eyiba.
Speaking during the final match of the 2014 edition between Agwolo and Uchi families at Okogbe, the Commissioner noted the need to expand the competition in order to accommodate more communities in the LGA.
He said that since Sports have become elevated and the in-thing, it would be good to plan how it would cut across deserving communities.
Eyiba commended the standard of officiating in the competition and said that world football body, FIFA was aware of the competition. He urged players to be committed to their chosen field as it takes total commitment to a cause for one to excel.
In the final match, Uchi family pipped their Agwolo counterpart 1-0 to lift the trophy.
Chairman of the closing ceremony, Chief Ruben Ajie Praised the finalists for their efforts and promised to promote sporting activities in the area.
He said that eventual winners of any contest were not always the best but harped on hardwork, which is the cornerstone for success in every life endeavour.
The chairman, Rivers State Local Government Commission Chief Nnamdi Wokekoro performed the official kick off of the final match.
