The deputy governorship
candidate, under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, Dr (Mrs) Ipalibo Banigo, has promised the women of Rivers State of change if given the opportunity to serve.
In a consultative forum with women professionals held earlier in the week, Dr Banigo said she did not yield to the call to serve for the mere euphoria of governance, but to make a difference and prove to the critics of womenfolk that women have much to contribute for the good of the society.
Commenting on the plight of women in the society, the deputy governorship candidate said as one abreast with the problems of women, her emergence to the brick house will definitely bring about visible change both to issues of feminine concern and to the general wellbeing of the residents of Rivers State.
She therefore, called on women not to place party affiliation above the collective interest of the folk.
Responding, a former chairperson of the federation of female lawyers in the state, Barrister Florence Amesiemaka, implored women to convince their family members to cast their votes for Dr Banigo, stating that it is a golden opportunity for the women of Rivers State, as one cannot be certain of any other opportunity except this is best utilised.
However, many respondents see the choice of a woman as a deputy governor, as stepping stone for the Rivers women.
