In a bid to ensure that
issues relating to better welfare of its members all given priority attention, the Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the management of the Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF) to immediately address such issues or face industrial action from February 2, 2015.
In a statement by the Association’s National President, Comrade Kassim Bataiya, he urged management of PEF to ensure that all pending including payments to its members are amicably settled before the expiration of the ultimatum.
Bataiya said the PEF’s management had shown a very lackadaisical attitude towards the issues presented to it by the association since December 2014, thereby allowing the issues to drag on for so long, stressing that the association’s members patience had run out.
He said the association had complained about the problems generated by the implementation of project Aquila and other related issues but the PEF’s management has failed to critically look into the issues.
The association’s boss explained that the implementation of project Aguila has been pending stressing that PEF’s response has been very slow taking up to three months in some cases whereas bank loans amortisation dies not wait.
He said the location for fixing Aguila are few and far to travel for over 500 kilometers to Aguila.
Batraiya emphasised that PEF has delayed freight payment to the association members, thereby leading to cash-flow problem with the excuse that Aguila does not capture already delivered products to either Calabar or Port Harcourt by the association members.
He called on PEF to pay for products delivered by the association’s members or face unpleasant consequences at the expiration of the ultimatum.
