Administrator Tasks NSC On Sports Policy
A grassroots Sports
Administrator in Rivers State, Eze S.A. Ogbueri has urged Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) and other relevant bodies to evolve strategies aimed at sustainable sports policy in the country.
Eze Ogbueri made the call in a telephone interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt yesterday.
He insisted that such policy has become necessary so that hidden talents could be discovered at the grassroots for national sports development.
He further said that the country would continue to loss its grip in Africa and the world if sports policy makers fail to pay more attention to grassroots sports development.
Eze Ogbueri was of the view that the talents in the country are enough for first and second teams at all levels pointing out that the problem of the country is traceable to wrong policy makers and inability to embark on aggressive grassroots sports development.
Consequently, he said that government should make sports development in the country compulsory and also follow it up by checking its effective implementation at local, state and federal levels.
According to him, Nigeria failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations because of wrong planning.
He was hopeful that Nigeria is capable of arresting the dwindling situation in the nation’s sports development if sports administrators put their house in order.
In the same vein, he wants sporting facilities to be made available at secondary schools and state stadia.
