Yoruba Community Launches N500m Multi-Purpose House In Rivers

As part of activities mak
ing the grand finale of the second Yoruba community week, the group has launched a N500m development fund for the building of a multi-purpose Yoruba House in Rivers State.
Speaking at the epoch making ceremony which took place at the Civic Centre main hall in Port Harcourt on Saturday, the President of the group, Sir Daniel Ogungbesan poured encomium on the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon Chubuike Rotimi Amaechi for his developmental strides and creating an egalitarian state where no one is oppressed. Ogungbesan thanked him for the inclusion of non-indigenes in his cabinet and especially one of their members, Adejoro Adeogun, as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State Waste Management Agency, as well as the sponsorship of some of their annual activities and pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
He, however, pledges loyalty and total support of the body to the present administration in Rivers State and thanked the members for their commitment to the Yoruba course in the state.
In his keynote address, the President General of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) Rivers State, Dr Otumba Gani Adams, charged all members to see themselves as an ambassador of the Yoruba race in Rivers by respecting the laws of the land at all times, adding that they should imbibe the age-long culture of Omoiuabi.
Adams further enjoined them to remain steadfast with their good moral upbringing despite the difficult times in the country and continue to fly the flag of their fatherland with pride and also contribute to the development of Yoruba nation and Nigeria in general.
He thanked them for their unity and urged them to jealously guide it as well as invest in their various communities. Earlier in his welcome address, the Secretary General of the body, Hon Wole Agunbiade disclosed that the Yoruba community decided to form united body in order to present a unified opinion on issues and to inculcate the spirit of oneness, unity and harmony among the members.
Agunbiade said their aim had been to maintain highest standards of good conduct and discipline amongst them, to assist each other and also promote cordial relationship between members and other ethnic groups, indigenous and non-indigenous, and hinted that the Yoruba community house when completed would serve as transit home with a central meeting place, event centre, Bar and restaurant, secretariat with internet facilities as well as lodging and accommodation.
