As the gubernatorial pri
maries of the People Democratic Party  (PDP) in Rivers State get underway today in Port Harcourt, the question at the lips of Rivers people is who among the aspirants clinches the PDP governorship ticket in the state?
Top contenders of the ticket include Chief Nyeson Ezebunwo Wike, erstwhile minister of state for Education; Senator Lee Maeba; Pawariso Samuel-Horsfall; Dein Ajumogobia (SAN), Bekinbo Dagogo-Jack; Prince Tonye Princewill and Dumo Lulu-Briggs.
Others still in the race for the Rivers PDP governorship ticket are Dumbari Ben-Dimkpa, Nemi Walso-Jack, Gabriel Pidomson, Bernard Mikko, Prof Don Baridam, Lancehot Anyanya, Sampson Ngerebara, amongst others.
Although the governorship aspirants are known to have done their home work very well before now, The Tide learnt that the fate of the contestants will be determined by the delegates’ votes on who among them the cap fits.
The Tide also learnt that apart from previous lobbies, last minute arrangement and manoeuvers by the aspirants and their political machineries could make considerable impact in the scoreline of the aspirants.
While the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have ratified the consensus candidature of Dr Dakuku Adol Peterside as the party’s flag bearer for the 2015 elections the Rivers PDP stands on the threshold of a new dawn as the party rise to the challenge to elect the battle axe for what it called “rescue mission,” despite the politics of tribal sentiment, mischief and calumny that have played out over time on the subject matter.
A number of PDP gladiators in the state who would want to remain anonymous told The Tide over the weekend that it many not be unlikely that the gubernatorial primaries of the party will polarise PDP further just as the APC is licking its wounds as a result of disagreement arising from the choice of Dakuku Peterside as its governorship candidate.
