UN Pledges To Support Nigeria Against Boko Haram

The UN has pledged its “full support” to Nigeria to end terrorism following the attack on Kano Central Mosque on Friday, which left many worshippers dead and several others injured.
In a statement issued by the UN Secretary-General Ban ki-moon and made available to  in Abuja, the Secretary General said that there was no justification whatsoever for the attacks on civilians.
Ki-Moon “reaffirms the full support of the UN to Nigeria’s efforts to fight terrorism and to provide security to the population consistent with international law and Nigeria’s human rights obligations.”
He conveyed his “deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and to the people and Government of Nigeria” and wished swift recovery to the injured.
The Secretary-General called on the relevant authorities to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has promised to supply blood to  hospitals in Kano  to help save the lives of victims of Friday’s bomb blast that rocked the city. Several victims of the attack were admitted at various hospitals in the state capital.
North-West Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Musa Ilallah  who made the statement in an interview on Saturday after visiting Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, the Federal Ministry of Health had directed its officials to supply blood from the ministry’s blood bank in Katsina to hospitals in Kano.
“We went round the hospitals to assess the conditions of those who are receiving treatment and we were informed that what they needed most is blood and consumables. “I spoke with officials of the Federal Ministry of Health and they have assured me that they will mobilise blood bank in Katsina to supply blood to the hospitals,” he said.
The Coordinator said the Ministry had also promised to supply drugs and other needed consumables from Abuja.
Ilallah commended Kano state government for providing all the needed materials for the treatment of injured persons receiving treatment in hospitals.
In his remark, DrKabirMaso-Kano, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Hospitals Management Board, said lack of consumables was hindering the treatment of the victims.
He however commended Kano residents for visiting hospitals to donate blood for the victims.
