uity funds to boost Small Scale businesses in Rivers State has been introduced to the House of Assembly by the government.
Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Chuma Chinye, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen during the maiden edition of the Garden City Corporate Awards in Port Harcourt said that the Award was aimed at encouraging youths to discover their talents and put if such to use.
The Commissioner however said that the private sector will be positioned to take over the programme from next year.
He said that the Award which is all about corporate excellence will advertise for entries from next year.
Chinye who described the programme as fist of its kind in the state, said that it was aimed to acknowledge the contributions of some companies towards the economic development of the state.
He said that, the Ministry within the last three years has initiated some innovative programmes stressing that efforts are being made to strengthen the synergy between the private sector and the government.
The Commissioner said that the companies so far selected for the Awards have performed creditably in terms of corporate responsibilities as well as contribute towards building the economy of Rivers State.
The Awards were divided into three categories which includes small scale companies, medium scale companies and large scale companies.
Seven companies emerged winner in the three categories with Moni Pulo Nigeria limited getting the overall best company Award 2014.
Other companies are, M. Saleh and company Nigeria limited, Belema Tailors and Amuzing Treat Nigeria Limited.
The rest are; Genesis Food Nigeria limited, Weco Engineering limited and Hotel Presidential.
