RSCHST To Demolish Illegal Structures
The Rivers State Col
lege of Health Sciences and Technology has ordered the immediate demolition of illegal structures on the school campus to provide a conducive learning atmosphere for the students.
Chairamn of the governing council of the institute, Mr Tasie Wike gave this directive at a meeting with the occupants of the illegal structures after an inspection tour of the campus.
Wike gave May 2015 deadline to occupants to relocate as the structures would be demolished.
He said the demolition was necessary to make room for government to erect structures, fit for a health institution.
He noted that the spaces on the premises of the institute were government-owned and warned that the college authorities would no longer tolerate trespass on its lands, stressing that on the expiration of the grace period, institution would deploy bulldozers to carry out the demolition of all illegal structures.
Speaking at the meeting, some of the occupants and owners of the structures pleaded with the governing council to allow them more time before they can vacate.
They argued that some of the occupants of the structures were retirees who were yet to receive their retirement benefits.
Present at the meeting were the provost of the college, Dr Charles Amadi, Deputy Provost, Dr Clement Nyenke amongst principal officers of the college.
