An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was yesterday defused by members of the Police Anti-Bomb Squad and the Special Task Force (STF) deployed to restore peace in Plateau State.
An eye witness said that the IED was discovered between Tin City School of Electronics and Fatima Primary School under a culvert around Laranto market area in Jos North local government area of the state.
The STF spokesman Captain IkedichiIweha said the bomb was successfully defused and urged citizens of the state to remain vigilant.
Iweha stressed that “terrorists from the North-east are looking for areas to cause trouble, especially during this festive season. We urge people to remain vigilant and not take things for granted.
He however dispelled the rumour that another IED was discovered around Old Airport Junction in Jos south LGA, but assured that security men are on the alert.
Meanwhile, the Department of State Services will today day oppose a suit filed by Aminu Ogwuche, an alleged mastermind of the bomb blast in Nyanya, a suburb of Abuja, on ?April 14, 2014.
Justice AdeniyiAdemola of a Federal High Court in Abuja where Ogwuche filed his suit, had on November 24 dismissed the terrorism charges instituted against him (the accused) by the police.
The judge said the charges, filed by the police as part of the process of extraditing Ogwuche from Sudan where he allegedly escaped after the bomb attack, were shoddily prosecuted by the police authorities.
The DSS has continued to keep the accused person in custody in anticipation of filing fresh charges against him.
Ogwuche’s lawyer, Ahmed Raji (SAN), had earlier on behalf of his client filed the fundamental human rights suit seeking his  (Ogwuche’s) release from the DSS custody.
The DSS is the only surviving defendant in the suit after the name of the Attorney-General of the Federation was struck out as a defendant. But counsel for DSS, Clifford Osaghie, sought for the judge’s permission to return to court to respond on Friday.
