PDP: Ogbulafor Heads Reconciliation Committee In Abia
Governor Theodore Orji
of Abia has inaugurated a seven-member reconciliation committee to appease the Peoples Democratic Party PDP members, who lost at the just-concluded party primaries in the state.
The committee, headed by a former National Chairman of PDP, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, had a former Senate President, Senator Adolf Wabara as member.
Inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Orji charged the members to reach out to aspirants, who failed to pick the party’s ticket for the 2015 polls with a view to appeasing their minds towards the party.
He noted that although the primaries had come and gone, it was still generating avoidable disaffection in the minds of some of the contestants.
“This is not unusual in a big family, where there are conflicting interests,’’ he said.
The governor underscored the need for immediate reconciliation of the aggrieved persons “so that our party will not be decimated’’.
Orji said that for the party to achieve resounding success at the polls, it was imperative to embark on peace initiatives to foster unity within the party.
He said that in every contest, one person must emerge winner, and urged the aggrieved aspirants to accept the outcome of the primaries in the spirit of sportsmanship.
The governor, who said that he had already commenced peace moves himself, tasked the committee not to leave any stone unturned in the discharge of its assignment to achieve “genuine reconciliation’’.
“We want peace and unity in our party and the state,’’ he said, adding that peace was germane to the unity and progress of the state.
Responding, Ogbulafor promised to tap from his experience as one who contested in two elections and lost to appease those that lost in the primaries and ensure that they returned and worked for PDP.
“I am the best choice for the chairmanship of the committee because I contested elections twice and lost twice and I still support the government of the day,’’ he said.
He assured the governor that the committee “will work day and night to deliver’’ on its mandate, saying that they could not afford to fail with the calibre of persons in the committee.
