NULGE Assures LG Chairmen Of Harmonious Relationship
The Nigerian Union of
Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ebonyi State branch says it will promote harmonious relationship with local government chairmen in the state.
Chief Leonard Nkah, re-elected state president of the union, disclosed this yesterday in an interview with newsmen in Abakaliki.
Nkah who was re-elected unopposed for a second term in office, noted that he would ensure that synergy between the union and the chairmen, was maintained.
“This has become more imperative with the recent appointment of caretaker chairmen to oversee the councils’ affairs in the state by the government.
“The existing harmonious relationship ensured the provision of enabling working environment for the workers which include: donation of utility vehicles, provision of offices, among others, by the chairmen.
“The relationship also ensured the implementation of the N18, 000 minimum wage for workers, as we are presently working assiduously to address all workers complaints,” he said.
According to him, his re-election at union’s quadrennial conference in Abakaliki would enable him and his executive, continue adressing the teething issues affecting the union.
“We would inject new ideas into our operations, to ensure that we uplift our members’ welfare and consolidate on our past gains.
“Since I took over from my late predecessor, Chief Michael Akpota in 2007, I have effectively connected workers in the rural sphere to the state grid.
“I have also succeeded in building a broad spectrum for everybody to participate in decision making of the union.
“I laid the foundation of the union as evidenced in the purchase of a plot of land and constructing a permanent secretariat for the union,” he said.
Nkah thanked the members for re-electing him and assured that he would continue to explore ways of enhancing their welfare.
Newsmen reports that the election witnessed by a representative of NULGE National Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Khaleeel saw Mrs Ebeke Onwe emerging as Deputy President, Esther Akpota as Treasurer, among other officers.
