Nigeria League Begins March
The Nigeria 2014/15
league season may likely kick off in March to allow the majority of clubs in the top flight access cash from their state governments.
Top officials informed newsmen that now that the NFF congress has endorsed the new governing structure of the League Management Company (LMC), the league is now on a better footing and what is now left is to decide on a kick-off date for the new season.
“We could all say we want to start the league next week, but when the majority of the clubs are owned by state governments, it is only reasonable we allow them access their funding from their states before they start the season,” an official disclosed.
“As a result, the new season will begin either in February or March when these clubs would have received some cash from their various governments.”
This month, Kano Pillars won a third straight league title, while Shooting Stars, Gabros FC, Wikki Tourists and Ranchers Bees will replace relegated Gombe United, Kaduna United, Crown FC and Nembe City in the top flight.
