NAOC Agric Competition Winners Emerge

In a bid to encourage the
growth and interest in agricultural study in secondary schools in the country, the Nigerian Agip  Oil Company Limited, (NAOC) has stepped up competition among secondary schools.
Speaking at the company’s Agricultural Science  Quiz competition which took place in Port Harcourt recently,  the General Manager, District of NAOC Mr. Paolo Carnevale,  said the contest  was aimed at broadening the scope and study of agriculture  and science in secondary schools.
Carnevale who was represented by the stakeholders Management and Community Development Division manager, Engr. Dan-Jumbo Dieheiruo pointed out that of the 71 secondary schools, from NOAC host communities which participated, two from each state progressed to the second round.
The states that participated include, Bayelsa, Rivers, Imo and Delta.
The Tide learnt that the keenly contested finals saw Novena University Staff School overcome their second placed rivals and two-time champions, St. Michael’s College Oleh of Delta State with 34 to 27 points.
It further showed that Government Secondary School Okporoma in Bayelsa State and Egbema Grammar school Okwuzi in Rivers State placed 3rd and 4th, respectively.
The NAOC boss further stated that the quiz competition had achieved the purpose for which it was organised. He said it was aimed at broadening the scope of agricultural science  in secondary schools and enhancing  academic excellence.
He further said that the process had also enhanced agricultural studies and enlightening students on new technological innovations in agriculture and building awareness  in the Green River Project (GRP).
While lauding the students and teachers of the participating  school, for their efforts, he urged them to work harder to enable them emerge at the finals.
Three students, Orada Emmanuel and Akpodiete Ogaga both from second placed’s St. Michael’s College, Oleh and Miss Jennifer Iwunoh of Novena University Staff School were awarded scholarships by NAOC.
