NAN Pledges Support For President Cup Tourney
The Managing Director
of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Ima Niboro, has said the agency would give maximum publicity support to the President Cup Tournament to ensure its success.
Niboro made the pledge in Abuja while hosting officials of the cup Organisng Committee, led by its Chairman, Mr Alhassan Yakmut, who paid him a visit in his office.
He said that President Goodluck Jonathan embraced the tournament because of its potential of improving Nigeria’s sports fortunes by raising grassroots players who would replace aging ones.
Niboro said that NAN would give the competition maximum publicity support because sports was a very important tool for promoting a country’s global image and perception and enhance economic development.
“Sports can do what one thousand diplomats cannot do and this explains why Mr President supports the tournament and NAN has no choice but to support you through maximum publicity.
“We are here to project Nigeria to the world and so we will put resources behind the competition not just to ensure its success but to ensure that Nigeria’s dwindling football fortunes pick up,’’ he said.
Earlier, Mr Yakmut said that the mission of the organising committee to the agency was to solicit NAN’s support and partnership.
He said that the visit was informed by the fact that NAN could render good publicity services that the President Cup Tournament would not do without.
Yakmut stressed the importance of the tournament, which he said, was initiated as a response to the yearnings for grassroots football development and to replace aging players with younger ones.
Other members of the entouragement included Mr Anyanwu Darlington, Executive Vice-Chairman of the committee, and Mr Richard Uboh-Ekong, Vice-Chairman.
