Enyimba striker Mfon
Udoh was the best player of the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2013/2014 season after he set a new goals record of 23 goals.
The previous record of 20 goals was set by Jude Aneke three seasons ago.
Young striker Udoh joined ‘The People’s Elephant’ at the beginning of the season from Akwa United, where he had scored 15 goals in the 2012/2013 season.
Many would not have believed he will be the number one striker for Enyimba looking at the calibre of front men at the disposal of the six-time Nigeria league champions namely Sibi Gwar, Abdukrahman Bashir and Emeka Nwanna.
But he proved to be the main man as he hit the ground running from Week 8 when he scored his first goal of the campaign in Enyimba’s 3-0 victory over Lobi Stars in Aba.
Udoh’s first away goal was in a 3-1 loss to Nasarawa United in a Week 12 game.
His first brace of the season was against Nembe City in a 3-0 home win in a Week 15 game. He also scored another brace against the same team in the reverse fixture.
He will go on to score a brace four times in the season. In November, he made his ‘B’ international debut as a substitute in a friendly against Ghana U23s.
The other main contender to the best player in the league was Dolphins striker Emem Eduok.
He netted 20 goals this season and set a record of being the first player ever in the Nigeria League history to score six goals in a single game.
