Legendary Composer Celebrates Centenary Birthday

endary composer of native music in Ikwerre language, Pa Theophilous Sunday Chukwunda, who celebrated his centenary birthday at his home town of Oduoha, Emohua in Emouha local government area of Rivers State, has attributed the secret of his longevity to his love for the arts and respect for human dignity.
The sage, who celebrated his 100 years on earth amidst cheers from well wishers at his native town of Oduoha, recalled his days, when he used his vocal prowess to illuminate the hearts of his people through a special brand of music called, “Oregbu”, which enhanced communal bond through native wits and sarcasm.
The centenarian, who is known to be the older man in his community said he thrilled his people as an expert xylophonist and earned the love of his people through the mastery of the arts and depth of native wits.
Asked how he succeeded as a polygamist with four wives at his beck and call, he said, he allowed his wives free hand and “never pried on their personal lives.” He advised young ones to always be peace loving and respect societal norms to live long.
Pa Chukunda is also renowned to be the first man in his community to venture into the hospitality industry, a business which he said earned him fame and popularity in the community. The sage also attributed his longevity to his devout life as a Christian , which he said made him operate on the “principles of justice and selfless service to humanity,” adding that his greatest spice in life is his love for palmwine. Speaking to Entertainment The Tide, one of the son’s of the celebrant, Pham. Godson Chukunda, described the event as a grand celebration of hardwork and commitment to human service.
He described the celebrant as a model adding that the contributions of his father to humanity will remain indelible.
